My expectations of how supported I have been by my weight loss surgery team at Melbourne Weight Loss Surgery have been far exceeded! Since preop, I have been working closely with my dietitian Liz, councillor Lisa, my surgeon Mr Micahel Hii and the exceptional team of administrative staff within the surgery, especially Claudia. Following my RNY bypass I have been closely linked with these specialists and also Mr Hii's specialist nurse Jacinta. They have been easy to contact, supportive and encouraging every step of the way. I love the information on their website for the texture phases, plus recipes and tips on exercise. I could not be happier with the surgery itself either! So far I have lost approximately 20kg at 8 weeks post op. Within a week I was feeling better with more energy than I had felt prior to surgery. The total out of pocket expenses were VERY reasonable also, considering other places and surgeons I looked at in my area were almost double the cost with as little as one group meeting preop for support. This is SUCH an encouraging team, I'm so glad I went with Mr Hii and Melbourne Weight Loss Surgery! I really struck lucky! I'm so thankful!

It's only been 6mths since my RNY Bypass, but leading up to and during this time, Michael Hii and his team have been FABULOUS!!! I'm halfway to goal, and feel so much healthier, I'm happier and I'm much more agile. There have been many improvements medically, physically and psychologically. I have had regular appointments with Michael [Surgeon] and Jessie [Nurse], as well as Laura [Dietitian], Sharon [Psychologist] & Kristi [Sports Physiologist] and with their expertise, knowledge & support, I have acclimatised to my new way of life and benefitted immensely. From the beginning, I knew Nicole was going to be the surgeon for me. She made me feel comfortable understood & most of all heard ! That I wasn’t lazy, useless and a failure. Having gastric sleeve surgery has completely changed my life and I’m only roughly 20 weeks into my journey. I could not fault Nicole, everything was seamless her support from the start to the end of surgery waking up to her smiling face was so reassuring & I knew she was equally as excited as me, for me to be able to start my journey on my new life & leave the old Brooke behind !!! “First time poster in this group and wanted to share my experience with Dr Nicole Winter. Let me start by saying she absolutely saved my life, and has given me my life back. Dr Nicole Winter has been nothing short of amazing, her care, compassion, empathy, understanding and knowledge is beyond what I ever thought I’d find in a surgeon. My dietitian Jennifer has also been nothing shy of wonderful and full of knowledge. She has taught me portion control and how to build a better relationship with food again. I am beyond impressed by the team and so grateful for choosing such a wonderful clinic to go through.
I started this journey at 168.8kgs basically 170kgs, with rheumatoid arthritis, pcos and obstructive sleep apnoea. I started my pre op on 13/11/2023 and underwent gastric bypass surgery with Dr Nicole Winter on 6/12/2023. My anxiety prior to surgery was crazy and Dr Nicole and her team ensured I would be okay and she was completely right, I’ve had no reflux or complications at all. If anything I thrived 2 days after surgery and had minimal pain and was able to move around normal.
I’m now 5 weeks post op and weighing already 147.8kgs! This might not seem like much but it’s definitely given me my confidence back and I’m starting to feel better about the way I look and feel. It’s also allowed me to stop taking my rheumatoid arthritis medication which I was on high doses of and my sleep apnoea machine pressure has dropped significantly since surgery.
I would always shy away from taking full length body photos because I hated the way I looked but now that I’m starting to get some shape and confidence I have worn a dress in the right photo without stockings which is a huge thing for me as I would always try cover myself. Photo on the left taken at work earlier in the week and photo on the right is me today at a music festival.
Looking forward to continuing this journey and hoping this post offers some piece of mind to those who are starting their journey. It might be hard to start with but you won’t regret the decision 🙂❤️”
